Round 1: MR, 6 sc into ring. [6]
Round 2: 6 inc (2 sc in each stitch). [12]
Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) x 6. [18]
Round 4: 1 sc, 1 inc, (2 sc, 1 inc) x 5, then 1 sc. [24]
Round 5: In BLO (back loop only): 24 sc. [24]
Round 6: 8 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc, 2 inc, 2 sc, 1 inc, 8 sc. [28]

Round 9: 24 sc. [24]

On the first leg only: make 1 sl st, fasten off (cut yarn, pull through).
Optional tip: To make the feet sit flat, cut two pieces of hard plastic (or cardboard) in the shape of the sole and insert into each foot before continuing.

Now prepare to join legs:
On the second leg, do NOT fasten off. Continue:
Work 4 more sc (or enough stitches to reach the middle of the inner side of the leg). Then chain 3.
With legs facing away from you (so color change will be at the back), join to the first leg with 1 sc into any stitch of the first leg.
This sc counts as the first stitch of Round 10.

Round 10:

  • Work 24 sc around the first leg,

  • then 3 sc in the chain-3 space,

  • then 24 sc around the second leg,

  • then 3 sc in the other side of the chain-3 space.
    Total = [54]

Change to WHITE yarn (see note below).

Note on color change: The designer recommends a special “invisible” color change (video reference). If you do a normal change, white will appear in row 11. Either is fine.

Rounds 11–12: 54 sc (each round). [54] (2 rounds)
Start stuffing the body lightly, and add more stuffing as you go.

Round 13: 4 sc, 1 inc, (8 sc, 1 inc) x 5, then 4 sc. [60]

Change to PURPLE yarn (normal color change).

Round 17: 60 sc. [60]
Round 18: In BLO: 60 sc. [60]
Round 19: 4 sc, 1 dec, (8 sc, 1 dec) x 5, then 4 sc. [54]

Round 26: 30 sc. [30]

Change to WHITE yarn (for the head).

Round 27-a (special row): In BLO: 30 sl st. This row does NOT count in stitch count; it’s a transition.
Round 27-b: In FLO: 1 sc, 1 inc, (2 sc, 1 inc) x 9, then 1 sc. [40]
Round 28: 2 sc, 1 inc, (4 sc, 1 inc) x 7, then 2 sc. [48]
Round 29: (7 sc, 1 inc) x 6. [54]

Rounds 31–37: 60 sc (each round). [60] (7 rounds)

Finishing the Blouse (purple part)

Turn the doll upside down. Look at the front loops left over from Round 17 (the round where you changed to purple).
Attach a new PURPLE yarn at the back of the piece, and work 60 sc into those front loops.
Finish with an invisible join, weave in the end.

Black Spots for Eyes (make 2) – with BLACK yarn

Worked in oval crochet (flat, not in a ring).

  • Pin the two black spots between Rounds 33 and 37, with 4 stitches between them (slightly tilted – see original photos).

  • You can embroider the mouth now or later with eyebrows and eye whites.

Continue HEAD (decreasing rounds)

Beginner Tips for This Pattern

  1. Use stitch markers everywhere – Especially when working the legs, body, and head. Mark the first stitch of each round so you don’t lose count.

  2. Stuff as you go – Don’t wait until the end to stuff the body and head. Add fiberfill gradually, especially before closing narrow parts like the neck.

  3. Practice BLO and FLO – Rounds 5, 18, 27-a, and 27-b use back or front loops only. This creates neat edges for the paws and the purple top. Take it slow.

  4. Pin before sewing – Use pins to hold the black spots, ears, arms, and snout in place before sewing. Adjust until you’re happy with the look.

  5. Don’t over-tighten decreases – When working dec, pull the yarn gently. Too tight will leave holes or make the panda’s shape lumpy.
