My dear crochet friends,

I’m so excited to be here with you today! I recently found this adorable Amigurumi Alpaca Free Pattern while browsing online, and I just had to try it for myself. After testing it step by step, I can tell you – this fluffy friend works up beautifully, and I’m happy to share the free pattern with you.

This alpaca looks quite impressive with its soft snout, floppy ears, and cute little legs, but don’t let that scare you. The pattern is marked as Intermediate, mostly because of the snout construction (where you work 10 double crochets into one stitch and skip others) and the fact that you’ll need to attach safety eyes through both the snout and the head at the same time. That said, an adventurous beginner with a little patience can absolutely succeed.

I love that the body uses a larger hook (5 mm) with a plush yarn, while the smaller details like the snout and ears use a 3 mm hook and finer cotton-blend yarn – it gives the alpaca such a professional, polished look.

So grab your Vintage Pink and Ivory yarns, and let’s crochet this charming alpaca together!

Beginner Tips

  1. Mark your snout placement before attaching eyes
The pattern asks you to determine the snout position, attach safety eyes through both the snout and the head, and then sew the snout on. To avoid crooked eyes, first pin the snout to the head (un-stuffed), poke the eyes through both layers to check alignment, then remove the snout, attach the eyes securely to the head alone, and finally sew the snout around them.

  2. Use a row counter for Rounds 12–18 of the neck
The head and neck are worked in one piece, with 7 rounds of straight single crochet for the neck (Rounds 12–18, 12 sc each). It’s very easy to lose count here. A row counter or small tally marks on paper will save you from accidentally making the neck too short or too long.

  3. Don’t overstuff the legs
The legs say “stuff firmly,” but because you change from Yarn C to Yarn A at Round 8, the transition area can get bulky. Stuff just enough to hold the shape – especially the bottom part – so the alpaca can stand nicely without the legs looking like little sausages.
